Changsha Medical College is a general higher education institution approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2005 (Jiaofahan [2005] No. 39), and the first private medical undergraduate college in the country. The predecessor was the Xiangnan Secondary Health Vocational and Technical School founded in 1989 by the representative of the Twelfth National People’s Congress, the National Education System Advanced Worker, the National Excellent Educator, and the principal Professor He Binsheng. In 1996, it was renamed Xiangnan Health Secondary Professional School. In 1999 It was upgraded to Xiangnan Medical College, and in 2001 the school headquarters moved to Changsha City. In 2011, the school passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education, and passed the clinical medicine certification of the Ministry of Education in 2015. In 2017, it was listed as a master's degree granting unit in Hunan Province. The school is governed by law and developed scientifically. It has successively been rated as the National Advanced School Running Unit, China's Top Ten Honest Private Colleges, National Employment Advanced Colleges, Civilized Colleges in Hunan Province, and Top Ten Private Schools in Hunan Province.
The school covers an area of 1.415 million square meters, a building area of 621,100 square meters, teaching and administrative buildings of 396,200 square meters, student dormitories of 156,600 square meters, teaching and research equipment worth 188.547 million yuan, and a collection of paper books of 2.4393 million. There are 45 databases in Chinese and foreign languages, with a total area of 75,700 square meters of stadiums (33,000 square meters of stadiums). The main school-running conditions meet or exceed the requirements of the state.
