Hunan Agricultural University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the People's Government of Hunan Province, a national civilized campus, and a first-class university in Hunan Province (Class A). "Father of Hybrid Rice" Academician Yuan Longping once served as the honorary principal of the school.
The predecessor of the school was the Xiuye School founded in 1903. Zhou Zhenlin, Huang Xing, Xu Teli, and Mao Zedong taught here successively. In March 1951, the Hunan Provincial Xiuye Agriculture and Forestry College, developed from the Xiuye School, merged with the Agricultural College of Hunan University to form the Hunan Agricultural College. Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the name of the school. In March 1994, it was renamed Hunan Agricultural University. After hundreds of years of trials and hardships, the school has been advancing, always adhering to the tradition of loving agriculture for agriculture, and practicing the mission of strengthening agriculture and rejuvenating agriculture. Now it has developed into a teaching and research university with agronomy as the main body and coordinated and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.
The school has 20 colleges, an independent college, a graduate school, and a continuing education college. The disciplines cover 10 categories such as agriculture, engineering, liberal arts, science, economics, management, law, medicine, education, and art. There are 1 national key discipline, 1 key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 3 domestic first-class construction disciplines in the province, 7 domestic first-class cultivation disciplines in the province, 2 provincial "Twelfth Five-Year" advantageous characteristic disciplines, and provincial "Twelfth Five-Year" key disciplines 15 subjects. Plant and animal sciences, agricultural sciences, environmental/ecology, chemistry, and engineering sciences are among the top 1% of the ESI rankings in the world. There are 10 post-doctoral research stations, 11 first-level disciplines for doctoral degree authorization, 23 first-level disciplines for master's degree authorization, and 13 for master's degree authorization categories. It is the first batch of units in the country to be authorized to grant master's degrees; there are 80 undergraduate majors Among them, there are 15 national-level first-class undergraduate majors and 20 provincial-level first-rate undergraduate majors; there are 30,476 ordinary full-time undergraduates (including 5,967 independent colleges) and 5,336 postgraduates.
There are 1505 full-time teachers, 979 faculty members with senior professional titles, and 1,870 faculty members with master's degree and above. There are 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 41 national-level talents including "Changjiang Scholars Award Program Candidates", national-level "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions", and 354 provincial-level talents. There are 1 national teaching team, 1 Huang Danian teacher team, 2 science and technology innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, 3 outstanding scientific research talents and innovation teams of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 6 innovation teams of Hunan Province, and 6 outstanding teaching teams of Hunan Province. Among the external teachers, there are 6 "double-employed" academicians, 2 academicians of the American Academy of Sciences, and 3 Changjiang Scholars.
The school is one of the first pilot construction units of the New Countryside Development Research Institute in the country, taking the lead in the establishment of 1 national-level "2011" collaborative innovation center, the provincial and ministerial joint construction of 1 "2011" collaborative innovation center, and 3 provincial-level "2011" collaborative innovation centers ; 8 national scientific research platforms and 79 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms. Accumulatively, it has won 27 national-level scientific and technological achievement awards, more than 500 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological achievement awards; more than 300 new varieties have been reviewed and more than 1,400 authorized patents. The selected new varieties of rape, pepper, tea, rice, corn, potato, peanut, grape, cotton, citrus, pig, tobacco and other new varieties and the formation of practical technical achievements have been promoted to cover the whole country.
The school has established close ties with more than 100 universities, government agencies and international institutions in more than 30 countries, and has established cooperative education relations with more than 20 universities such as Ohio State University in the United States, Greenwich University in the United Kingdom, and Kagoshima University in Japan. It is one of the first universities in Hunan Province to start a Sino-foreign cooperative education program.
