Hunan Institute of Engineering is located in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, the hometown of Mao Zedong, a great man of a generation. It is an undergraduate college sponsored by the People's Government of Hunan Province. Hunan Institute of Engineering was founded in June 2000 from the former Xiangtan Mechanical and Electrical College (founded in 1951, under the former Ministry of Machinery Industry, and is a national demonstration key construction school for higher engineering colleges), Hunan Textile College (founded In 1978, it was merged and formed under the former Hunan Provincial Textile Industry Department. From 1958 to 1963, the predecessor of Xiangtan Electromechanical College, "Xiangtan Electrical Engineering College", had five years of undergraduate education.
In 2000, the school took the lead in establishing the application-oriented undergraduate education positioning among local colleges and universities across the country, and formed a distinctive engineering application-oriented talent training characteristic. The school has two campuses, the main campus and the south campus. The campus covers an area of 1,806 mu with a building area of 540,000 square meters.
