Wuhan Electric Power Vocational and Technical College was founded in 1953, and its predecessor was Wuhan Electric Power School. In 1958, it was renamed Wuhan Electric Power Technical School. In 1960, Hubei Electric Power University was established and the first undergraduates were recruited. In 1962, it was renamed Wuhan Electric Power School. In 1980, it was awarded the title of the first batch of "National Key Technical Secondary Schools". In 2002, it was upgraded to Wuhan Electric Power Vocational and Technical College.
