Wuhan College was established in 2003 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It enrolls students nationwide and implements full-time undergraduate and junior college degree education. It is supervised by the Hubei Provincial Department of Education. Wuhan College is positioned to "build a first-class university and cultivate leading talents in the industry", and implement a characteristic training model of whole-person education, interdisciplinary development, school-enterprise cooperation, and internationalization.
Wuhan College has three colleges and four departments, namely, the School of Accounting and Finance, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Humanities, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Art and Design, the Department of Law and the Department of Communication. The school has a large number of well-known universities at home and abroad from Massachusetts State University, Ohio State University, University of Reading, University of Manchester, University of Paris I, University of Sydney, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, etc. Experts and professors from, as well as part-time tutors from Huawei, Tencent, JD.com and other companies have joined. The founder of the school is Mr. Chen Yidan, the main founder of Tencent, the founder of Tencent Charity Foundation, and the founder of the "Yidan Award". He opened a precedent for non-profit public welfare universities in China by means of “no return for running a school”.

In December 2016, the "Hubei Yidan University Education Development Foundation" completed the first round of co-construction fund raising, which is dedicated to supporting the continuous construction and development of Wuhan University. These include donations from Mr. Ma Huateng, Chairman and CEO of Tencent, Mr. Zhang Zhidong, the main founder of Tencent, Mr. Wu Xiaoguang, a member of the early founding team of Tencent, and other enthusiastic entrepreneurs and school board members. In 2015, the "National-level Makerspace" Tencent Makerspace/Wuhan College Entrepreneurship Base settled in Wuhan College. The new campus of Wuhan University covers an area of more than 1,000 acres and is located on the bank of Huangjia Lake in Jiangxia District, Wuhan. It is planned and designed by Chinese architect He Jingtang, a master of Chinese architecture. The humanized garden-style campus can accommodate more than 15,000 students to study and live.
