Huanggang Teachers College is located in the head of Chu Wuwei, Tongjiang Dahai, and the city of Wuhan, the capital of the province, and the city of Hubei Province, a livable city-Huanggang City, Hubei Province. A general full-time undergraduate university with a scientific nature, it is the first institution of higher learning in Huanggang City with a population of 7.5 million.
The predecessor of the school was the "Huangzhou Normal School" established in 1905. It has undergone changes such as "Provincial Huanggang Rural Normal School", "Hubei Provincial Huanggang Normal School", and "Huanggang Normal College"; in March 1999, Approved by the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to the undergraduate level "Huanggang Normal University"; in October 2011, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the school to independently carry out postgraduate education for the master's degree in education. In 2017, it passed the acceptance evaluation of the pilot master of education project organized by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the review and evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work organized by the Ministry of Education. After more than a hundred years of hard work, the school has now developed into a multidisciplinary university involving ten disciplines including science, engineering, agriculture, economics, literature, history, law, education, management, and art. There are three levels of junior colleges. The school is composed of three campuses: the south campus, the north campus and the west campus (the east campus is under construction). The existing campus covers an area of 1,650 acres. The school recruits students from 27 provinces and cities across the country, with a total of 19,580 full-time students.
The school vigorously implements the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, and strives to promote the "hundred doctors introduction project". There are 1158 full-time teachers, including 123 full-time teachers, 344 associate professors, 355 doctors and 634 masters. There are more than 100 national and provincial honorary experts. The school also employs more than 100 well-known scholars, professors and doctoral supervisors from key universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University as part-time professors.

There are more than 51 projects, including nearly 160 projects from Hubei Provincial Self-Technology Fund and Social Science Fund. The school has extensive international exchanges. It is now a governing unit of the China Education International Exchange Association. It has established stable exchanges and cooperation with relevant universities and institutions in more than 50 countries and regions such as the United States and the United Kingdom, and has successively hired more than 100 foreign experts and scholars. The school teaches and lectures, dispatches more than 100 people to foreign universities and scientific research institutions for cooperative research, more than 200 people go abroad to participate in international academic conferences, and more than 180 teachers and students go abroad to teach Chinese. In 2010, the school established the International Education College to carry out international cooperation in running schools. There are currently 5 Sino-foreign cooperative education programs. Since 2011, it has co-organized the undergraduate major of animation with Kibi International University in Japan, and since 2014, it has co-organized the undergraduate major of preschool education with the University of Worcester in the United Kingdom. In December 2018, the first "Confucius Classroom" jointly built by the school and Sri Lanka's Subalgmuwa University officially set sail.
