South-Central University for Nationalities is a comprehensive institution of higher learning directly under the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. It is located on the shore of Wuhan Nanhu Lake, the hometown of Baiyun Huanghe. The school was formerly known as South-Central University for Nationalities, founded in 1951, and was renamed South-Central University for Nationalities in March 2002. The school covers an area of more than 1,550 acres, with a school building area of more than 1 million square meters, a collection of more than 6.97 million books, and the first ethnology museum in a university in the country.
