China University of Geosciences is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a university approved by the state to establish a graduate school, and a national "211 Project" and a national "Double First Class" construction university.   History


   China University of Geosciences was founded in 1952, and its predecessor was the Beijing Institute of Geology formed by the merger of the geology departments (subjects) of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Tangshan Railway Institute and other institutions. The school was identified as a national key institution in 1960. In 1970, the school moved to Hubei as a whole and was renamed Hubei Institute of Geology. In 1974, the school was located in Wuhan and changed its name to Wuhan Institute of Geology. In 1978, Wuhan Institute of Geology established the Beijing Graduate School of Wuhan Institute of Geology on the original site of Beijing. In 1987, the National Education Commission approved the establishment of China University of Geosciences, running schools in Wuhan and Beijing, with its headquarters in Wuhan. In February 2000, the school was placed under the management of the Ministry of Education by the Ministry of Land and Resources. In October 2006, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Land and Resources signed an agreement to jointly build China University of Geosciences.
