Wuhan University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is one of the first universities to be included in the national "211 Project" and "Double First Class" construction. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Transport. The history of the school originated from the Hubei Institute of Technology established in 1898. In the 123 years, especially in the past 70 years, the school has trained more than 600,000 senior professionals. The school with the largest scale of talent training in the industry has become an important base for high-level talent training and technological innovation in my country's "three major industries". At present, the school has more than 36,000 general undergraduates, more than 18,000 doctoral and master students, and more than 1,700 international students.

The school currently has Mafangshan campus, Yujiatou campus and Nanhu campus, covering an area of more than 4,000 acres, with a total building area of 1.861 million square meters, and 4 modern libraries with a collection of 3,295,300 books. There are 25 colleges (departments) and 6 independent research institutes. There are 5419 faculty members, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of the Royal Belgian Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of the Australian Academy of Engineering, 3 academicians of the European Academy of Sciences, 1 foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, and academicians of the World Academy of Ceramics. 1 person; 125 high-end talents supported by the Central Organization Department, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education and the Hubei Provincial Government Talent Program.
The school has formed a discipline and professional system focusing on engineering, with science, engineering, economics, management, art, literature, law and other disciplines interpenetrating and developing in a coordinated manner. At present, there are 19 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 45 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, and 17 post-doctoral research mobile stations; there are 22 master professional degree authorization categories and 39 master professional degree authorization fields. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, materials science and engineering won A+, and mechanical engineering, transportation engineering, design, Marxist theory and other disciplines won B+. There are 96 undergraduate majors, including 37 national first-class undergraduate majors, 15 national characteristic majors, 28 pilot majors of the outstanding engineer education and training plan, 4 national comprehensive reform pilot majors, and 2 national strategic emerging industries majors. There are currently 40 national-level first-class undergraduate courses, 17 national-level quality resource sharing courses, and 8 national-level quality video open courses. It has 5 national-level teaching teams, 4 experimental areas for talent training model of the Ministry of Education, 5 national-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 13 national-level engineering practice education centers, 1 international demonstration college, and national colleges and universities to practice education, innovation and entrepreneurship One base and one national entrepreneurial incubation demonstration base each.
In the past 10 years, the school has cultivated a group of national outstanding college student representatives. 1 person won the “Most Beautiful College Student in the Country”, 2 won the “Chinese Youth May Fourth Medal”, 4 won the title of “Chinese University Student of the Year”, and 4 won the “Chinese University Student of the Year” title. 15 students were awarded the title of "Chinese University Student Self-reliance Stars", 5 were awarded the "Chinese Youth Volunteer Outstanding Individual Award", and 5 were awarded the "China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award". The employment rate of school graduates has remained above 95% in the past ten years, among which the number of employees in Fortune 500 companies and strategic emerging industries accounted for more than 50% of the total employment.
The school has established 40 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research bases, including the State Key Laboratory of New Materials Composite Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Silicate Building Materials, the National Engineering Laboratory of Optical Fiber Sensing Technology, and the National Water Transport Safety Engineering Technology Research Center. There are three provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation centers, including the Collaborative Innovation Center of the Ministry of Inland Water Transportation and Transportation, the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center of Auto Parts Technology, and the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center of Safety Early Warning and Emergency Linked Technology. The school was approved as a pilot unit for the construction of a strong transportation country, and was selected as the first batch of national intellectual property model universities and the second batch of scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases of colleges and universities, and jointly established industry-education integration demonstration zones, science and education innovation parks, and industry with local governments and industry enterprises There are 257 scientific and educational cooperation and achievement transformation institutions such as the Technology Research Institute. The school has established talent training and scientific and technological cooperation relationships with more than 190 universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Britain, Japan, France, Italy, Australia, Russia, the Netherlands and other countries, and has hired more than 200 well-known domestic and foreign scholars as strategic scientists, Chair professor, visiting professor and honorary professor. In addition, 16 high-level international research platforms have been established with famous foreign universities and research institutions. Relying on the school, the Ministry of Science and Technology has successively established 7 national, provincial and ministerial-level international scientific and technological cooperation bases, including the International Joint Laboratory of New Material Composite Technology, the Environmentally Friendly Building Materials International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base, and the Intelligent Shipping and Maritime Safety International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base. In 2016, the first overseas campus established by the school in cooperation with Trinity St. David's University in Wales, UK, was officially put into operation. In 2018, the school cooperated with the University of Aix-Marseille in France to establish the Aix-Marseille College of Wuhan University of Technology.
