Zhengzhou Electric Power Technical College is an ordinary university built by the central and local governments and organized by the electric power industry. It is mainly based on electric power vocational education. It is an important training base for electric power technology and skill-based talents in the central and southern regions.
The school has a history of 87 years. Its predecessor, Zhengxian Industrial Vocational School (later renamed Henan Provincial Zhengzhou Advanced Industrial Vocational School) was founded in 1933. During the Anti-Japanese War period, it has been running for 8 years in Chimei Town, Neixiang County. Changed its name 16 times. In 1953, faculties and departments nationwide were adjusted. Based on the Zhengzhou Advanced Industrial Vocational School, the electrical engineering departments of six advanced industrial schools in the five central and southern provinces were merged into the Zhengzhou Electric Power School of the Ministry of Fuel Industry. After that, after going through the development stages of Henan Electric Power University, Zhengzhou Electric Power University, Zhengzhou Electric Power School, etc., in 1994, Zhengzhou Electric Power College was established.
The school occupies an area of 294,300 square meters. The Provincial Development and Reform Commission approved the mid- and long-term plan for the enrollment of 10,000 students. The planned construction area is nearly 300,000 square meters, and the completed construction area is 162,500 square meters. Now there are 132 practical teaching training bases and training rooms, of which 45 are supported by the central government, 33 are supported by the provincial finance, and 17 are supported by the provincial company. It has the Engineering Technology Research Center for Electric Power Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction of Universities in Henan Province and the Zhengzhou Key Laboratory of Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction for Power Generation Boilers. The total asset value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 112,828,800 yuan. The library has a collection of 484,600 books and 116 multimedia classrooms.
The school completed the financial consolidation with the company in 2017, the income and expenditure were incorporated into the company's unified management and control, and the financial management was operated in a branch company mode. The main sources of income are financial appropriations, tuition income and training income. All expenditures are used for teaching, scientific research and normal operation. The company provides subsidies for insufficient funds.
The professional setting covers 35 majors in the five major fields of electric power engineering, power engineering, mechanical and electrical, information and communication, and economic and trade management, and 3 majors in international cooperation with the Australian Enlightenment College. The professional layout is mainly based on traditional electric power and power majors. In recent years, in order to better serve the development of the company and the industry, new energy equipment technology, industrial robots, big data technology and applications, Internet of Things application technology, and wind power systems have been added one after another. Emerging professions such as operation and maintenance. The school currently has 2 national-level backbone majors, 3 provincial-level teaching reform pilot majors, 7 provincial-level characteristic majors, and 5 provincial-level comprehensive professional reform pilots. There are currently 6,503 full-time students. The 2019 enrollment plan is 2,100 students, and the freshman registration rate is 97.48%. The minimum scores for science and liberal arts are higher than the provincial control scores of 119 and 211 points, respectively. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 96% for three consecutive years, which is 4% higher than the national average of higher vocational colleges. Among them, the electricity and energy fields are the main channels of employment, accounting for nearly 60% on average. Since 2017, a total of 509 graduates have entered the State Grid Corporation of China, of which 391 have entered the Henan Electric Power Corporation. In 2020, the school plans to enroll 2500 students in order to actively respond to the national vocational education expansion policy of one million.
The school has long undertaken short-term training courses issued by provincial companies, including human, financial, and material management, team leaders, and new employee induction training projects. In 2019, 886 person-times and 5316 person-days of training services within the company's plan were completed.
