Zhongyuan Institute of Technology is a high-level and characteristic backbone university that focuses on engineering, has distinctive characteristics in textiles and apparel and aviation technology, and has coordinated development of engineering, management, liberal arts, sciences, economics, law, philosophy, history, and art. The school was founded in 1955, formerly known as Zhengzhou Textile Institute of Technology, which belongs to the Ministry of Textile Industry of the People's Republic of China. It was transferred to Henan Province in 1998 and renamed as Zhongyuan Institute of Technology in 2000.
The school is divided into three teaching areas: Longhu Campus, Zhongyuan Campus and West Campus, covering an area of 1,610 acres. There are 23,920 full-time students, including 22,220 undergraduates, 1,125 postgraduates, and 26 international students. There are also 4112 adult education students. The school building area is 846,500 square meters, the total value of teaching and research equipment is 606 million yuan, and there are a total of 4,464,200 books, including 1,672,412 paper books and 2,791788 electronic books. The school has 21 teaching departments, including Textile College, Fashion College, Energy and Environment College, Mechanical and Electrical College, Electronic Information College, Art Design College, etc. There are 64 undergraduate majors, 11 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, and 53 second-level disciplines. Authorization points for master's degree in level disciplines, and 11 authorization categories for master's degree. It has two backbone discipline groups with characteristics of Henan Province, namely "New Textile and Apparel Materials and High-end Equipment" and "Intelligence and Aviation Information Technology". There are 8 first-level disciplines of Henan Province's key disciplines and 2 second-level disciplines of Henan Province's key disciplines. 17 majors including textile engineering have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and Henan Province first-class undergraduate major construction sites. Two courses were selected into the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses. In 2018, he was approved to be awarded the project construction unit by Henan Province. It has the first batch of industrial training centers and university science parks in Henan Province.

At present, the school has 1 national-level first-class undergraduate major, 4 national-level characteristic majors, 1 national-level professional comprehensive reform pilot major, 1 national-level practical teaching base, 1 national university ideological and political theory teaching and research team, and There are a number of provincial-level characteristic majors and first-class majors, experimental teaching demonstration centers (laboratories), grassroots teaching organizations, teaching teams, first-class courses, quality resource sharing courses, bilingual teaching demonstration courses, etc. In the past three evaluations of Henan Higher Education Teaching Achievement Awards, 12 special and first prizes have been won.
