North China University of Water Conservancy and Hydropower

The school is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Water Resources and Henan Province and focused on management in Henan Province. It is a backbone university with Henan Province characteristics. It is a doctoral degree-granting unit. It is the first batch of masters-granting units in the country and the first batch of universities in the central and western regions. Basic capacity building engineering universities, the first batch of universities with the qualifications for overseas student enrollment, and the Ministry of Education's outstanding engineer education and training program universities, are the lead units of the "BRICS Network University" identified by the Ministry of Education.


The school originated from the Water Conservancy School of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Central People's Government, founded in 1951 in Beijing. In 1954, it was renamed the Beijing Water Conservancy School of the Ministry of Water Resources. In 1958, Beijing Hydropower School and Beijing Hydropower Correspondence College were merged into Beijing Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydropower. In 1978, it was renamed North China Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydropower. In 1990, he moved to Zhengzhou City, Henan Province to run a school. In 2013, it was renamed North China University of Water Conservancy and Hydropower.


North China University of Water Conservancy and Hydropower was born by water, survived by water, and thrived by water. It has grown and developed along with the construction of water conservancy and hydropower in New China. From Beijing to Hebei and then to Henan, the school has always adhered to the original mission of water governance and rejuvenation of the country, adhered to the characteristics of running water conservancy and hydropower schools, and took "diligence, rigor, truth-seeking, and innovation" as the school motto, and served the national water conservancy and hydropower industry and regional economic and social development as its mission. Roads and blues, hard work, and unwavering determination have formed the school-running philosophy of "education-oriented, learning for application" and the school-running spirit of "love for water conservancy and continuous self-improvement". The school has 24 teaching units including the School of Water Conservancy, the School of Electric Power, and the School of Water Resources, the Yellow River Basin Ecological Protection and High-quality Development Research Institute, the Water Culture Research Center, the Geotechnical Engineering and Hydraulic Structure Research Institute, and the Sino-German Resources Environment and Geology More than 150 research institutions including the Disaster Research Center. The school has been selected as one of the first batch of national water regime education bases, national party building work demonstration universities, the Ministry of Water Resources "strong supervision" talent training base and member units of the "Belt and Road" talent training base.


The distribution of disciplines is reasonable. After 70 years of construction and development, the school has become a university with the characteristics of water conservancy and hydropower, engineering as the main subject, and the coordinated development of science, engineering, management, agriculture, economics, literature, law, and art. There are 65 full-time undergraduate enrollment majors, including 31 national and provincial first-class professional construction sites, 17 national and provincial characteristic professional construction sites, 15 national and provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors, and 10 national Level and provincial level outstanding plan construction major (base). It has 14 provincial-level first-level key disciplines, 3 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degree, and 34 first-level disciplines and authorized fields for master's degree authorization.


Talent training has achieved remarkable results. The school recruits students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions across the country. There are more than 33,000 full-time undergraduates, masters and doctoral students, and foreign students. Since the establishment of the school, the school has trained more than 400,000 senior professional and technical personnel and management personnel for the country, including nearly 20 ministers, generals of the armed police and hydropower units, and provincial and ministerial leaders. The faculty continues to grow. The school currently has more than 2,500 faculty members, including more than 800 teachers with senior professional titles and more than 900 teachers with doctoral degrees; double-appointed academicians, national talents project candidates, national model teachers and other national talents and outstanding experts of Henan Province, There are more than 80 provincial-level talents such as the talents of the Central Plains Talents Program, the academic and technical leaders of Henan Province, famous teaching teachers, model teachers and outstanding teachers, and 26 experts who enjoy the special allowance of the State Council.


The prospects for international cooperation are broad. The school began accepting foreign students in 1958 and assisted in the construction of the Vietnam Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydropower. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the school has carried out Sino-foreign cooperation with high-level universities in the world such as the University of Nice in France, the University of Teesside in the United Kingdom, the Qiming University in South Korea, and the Ural Federal University in Russia. In 2015 and 2016, he was successively selected as the founding member universities of the "BRICS Network University" and the "BRIC University Alliance". In 2018, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Ural College, the first cooperative education institution under the BRICS Network University system, was formally established, achieving a major breakthrough in our school's cooperation in running schools; the Confucius Institute jointly established by the school and Sarawak University of Science and Technology in Malaysia Approved, and established the school's first overseas school-Huayu College.


Social prestige continues to increase.
