Heilongjiang Bayi Land Reclamation University is a full-time general higher education school in Heilongjiang Province. It was founded in July 1958. The first president was General Wang Zhen, the former Vice President of the State and then Minister of Land Reclamation. The school was originally affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Reclamation, and was placed under the Heilongjiang Provincial People's Government in 1973. After 63 years of development and construction, it has now become an agricultural university with distinctive modern large-scale agricultural characteristics, agriculture-oriented, and multi-disciplinary coordinated development.
The school was born in the historical tide of the development and construction of the Great Northern Wilderness by 100,000 demobilized officers and soldiers. The original school site is located in the mountainous countryside north of Peide Town, Mishan City. In the 45 years of running a school in the border countryside, the teachers and students of the school carried forward the fine traditions of the People's Liberation Army and the "anti-college spirit", inherited the spirit of the Great Northern Wilderness, and embarked on a road of continuous self-improvement and hard work. In 2003, the school moved into Daqing City as a whole, and entered a new period of accelerated upgrading and leapfrog development. The school is located in Daqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone, with a total area of 1,200,400 square meters, construction area of 407,000 square meters, total fixed assets of 1.312 billion yuan, 325 million yuan of teaching and research equipment, and 2,195,600 books. The school has 1408 faculty members, including 912 full-time teachers, 189 professors, and 270 associate professors. The school has 12 undergraduate colleges and teaching institutions such as the Marxist College, the Department of Physical Education and Research, and the College of Continuing Education. The school’s scientific research work focuses on applied research and technology development. It has established the National Coarse Cereals Engineering Technology Research Center, the New Rural Development Research Institute, the Ministry of Education’s Food By-product Processing and Utilization Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for quality supervision of agricultural products and processing. There are 25 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms including the Inspection and Testing Center (Daqing), as well as 7 provincial university key laboratories and engineering technology R&D centers.
