Northeast Forestry University was founded in July 1952, formerly known as Northeast Forestry College. It was established on the basis of the Forestry Department of Zhejiang University's Agricultural College and the Forestry Department of Northeast Agricultural College. It was directly under the management of the former Ministry of Forestry. In August 1985, it was renamed "Northeast Forestry University". In March 2000, it was placed under the direct management of the Ministry of Education by the State Forestry Administration. In October 2005, it was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education to become a key construction school of the "211 Project". In June 2011, it became the key construction university of the national "Advanced Discipline Innovation Platform" project. In September 2017, it was approved by the State Council to be included in the ranks of national first-class discipline construction universities. In November 2010, the Ministry of Education and the State Forestry Administration signed an agreement. In March 2012, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province signed an agreement to jointly build Northeast Forestry University.
The school is located in Harbin, the center of my country’s largest state-owned forest area. The campus covers an area of 136 hectares and has Maoershan Experimental Forestry Farm (Maoershan National Forest Park) and Liangshui Experimental Forestry Farm (Liangshui National Nature Reserve). , Scientific research and practice bases, with a total area of 33,000 hectares.
