Qitaihe Vocational Technician College is the only full-time general college in the city that integrates higher vocational education, secondary vocational education, technical education, and social training.
Vocational College was established in 2005 by the merger of Qitaihe Normal School and Qitaihe Adult Education College. It recruits full-time college students from many provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, and also undertakes adult education. The Technician College was established in 2009 by the merger of Qimei Training College and the Municipal Technical School. It recruits students from this city and surrounding cities and counties, trains junior, intermediate, and senior skilled talents, and also develops social training business. Both colleges are deputy department-level units. In February 2013, the municipal party committee and the municipal government integrated the two institutes and the municipal vocational and technical schools. The school names and organizational systems of "Vocational College" and "Technician College" are still retained externally. In terms of business, they correspond to the Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security. After five years of efforts after the integration, the campus area has increased by 70%, the school building planning area has nearly doubled, the number of students has doubled, and the mental outlook of the majority of faculty members has also been qualitatively improved. In 2017, it ranked among the top 600 in the core competitiveness ranking of national higher vocational colleges, and ranked 18th among 43 similar colleges and universities in the province.
The college covers a total area of 270,000 square meters (including 160,000 square meters on the north campus and 110,000 square meters on the south campus), and a building area of 79,000 square meters on the north campus (including teaching buildings, art and sports halls, libraries, student dormitories, and student dormitories). The college's existing medical and health, electrical engineering, electronics and information engineering (including Sino-German Nuohao Automotive College), economics and construction engineering (including the South Campus E-commerce College), coal production and environmental safety, humanities, basic education, Zhang Jie Eight teaching departments, including the Ice Sports Academy, offer 18 enrollment majors involving 13 major categories.
The college has a total of 6,105 students, including 4588 full-time students (1631 three-year higher vocational schools, 1175 five-year higher vocational schools, 527 technical secondary school students, and 1255 technicians); 1517 adult students; over the past five years A total of 228 social training services were carried out for the city, and more than 15,000 people were trained. The college focuses on deepening school-enterprise cooperation and modern apprenticeship pilot projects.
