1. School profile
Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology, formerly known as Hainan Vocational College of Science and Technology, was established on the basis of the original Haikou campus of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2007 when Hainan Province transformed into an international tourist island. After more than ten years of hard work, the school was successfully upgraded and renamed "Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology" when Hainan was fully constructing a free trade zone (port).
Eight years before the school was opened, Professor Yang Xiuying and Jiangxi Provincial Government Allowance Expert served as the principal. Since September 2015, the former Hainan Normal University President Han Changri has served as the principal; the first party secretary of the school is Xiao Yuming (formerly Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Hainan Medical College) ), the second party secretary is Jiao Jiege (formerly Dean of Hainan Medical College), and the current school party secretary and government supervisory commissioner is Wen Qiang. The school's first government supervisory commissioner was Wang Daqun (formerly the director of the Academic Affairs Office of Hainan University).
The school has two campuses, Meilan Campus in Haikou City and Yunlong Campus in Haikou City, with a total area of 728,445 square meters. The Meilan campus is located in Haikou Jiangdong New District, a key pioneering area of the Hainan Free Trade Zone, and is characterized by a "Strong Ocean School"; Yunlong Campus is located in the scenic Yunlong Town, Qiongshan District, Haikou, featuring a "integrated medical care". As of December 31, 2020, the school’s teaching and research equipment has a net book value of 104 million yuan, 1.51 million paper books in the library, 1.35 million e-books, and more than 100 Chinese and foreign periodicals. The library currently has a deep image ILAS lending system, academic platforms such as HowNet and Chaoxing, and waterfall electronic display screens for pre-reading books. The two campuses will also increase teaching equipment and books and periodicals year by year in accordance with the expansion of the scale of students. In 2020, the school will have more than 16,000 full-time students.
The school adheres to the school motto of "Science, Practicality, Virtue, and Innovation", and adheres to the school philosophy of "Strengthening the school with talents, building the school with quality, and rejuvenating the school with characteristics". Building people as the foundation, student-centered, ability-oriented, focusing on both moral and technical skills, serving Hainan’s economic and social development as its purpose, and taking entrepreneurship and employment as its orientation, it is committed to cultivating high-quality, high-level technical and technical talents. The school has the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Chemistry and Materials Engineering, the School of Maritime Affairs, the School of Urban Construction, the School of Finance and Economics, the School of Design, the School of Health Sciences, the School of International Nursing, the School of Clinical Medicine, the School of Media and Music, the School of Accounting, etc.12 There are more than 60 full-time undergraduate and junior college majors in three colleges and three teaching departments. The school’s navigation technology and health management majors were rated as provincial backbone majors in 2016, and were recognized by the Ministry of Education in June 2019. The school implements expert scholarship, and the existing 13 principals and vice principals are doctors, masters, professors, associate professors, corporate factory directors, or those with more than 5 years of work experience as the vice president of the school. 5. Teaching Reform
The school has always adhered to the integration of production and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and collaborative innovation, and promotes teaching reform through school-enterprise cooperation. 7. Practice teaching base
The school pays attention to the construction of teaching and research platforms and practical teaching bases. 8. Student entrepreneurship and employment
For more than ten years, the school has trained more than 30,000 graduates for the society. Recently, Gu Bingbing also undertook the development technology project of the electronic scale interface of the smart canteen of Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology.
At present, the school has entered the fast lane of the country's first batch of undergraduate-level vocational education pilot reforms and developments.
