Guizhou Radio and Television University was established in 1979. It is an independent higher education institution organized by the People's Government of Guizhou Province according to the instructions of Comrade Deng Xiaoping and approved by the Ministry of Education. Guizhou Vocational and Technical College was founded in 2008. Guizhou Radio and Television University and Guizhou Vocational and Technical College implement a management model of "two brands, one team, and one staff". They are a new type of university integrating open education, vocational education, and lifelong education.
The school is located in Guiyang, Shuangshuang, with convenient transportation and beautiful environment. There are three campuses on Bageyan Road, Yuntan South Road and Yan'an West Road, covering an area of 639.9 acres and a building area of nearly 200,000 square meters. There are 493 faculty members in the school, including 138 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 45.8%; 172 doctors and masters, accounting for 57.1%; and 181 teachers with double teacher qualifications, accounting for 60.13%. There are 5 provincial-level famous teachers. It has built a part-time teacher resource database of more than 500 people, and successively hired 7 foreign teachers from the United States, Britain and other foreign teachers to engage in frontline teaching work. The library has nearly 400,000 paper books and more than 10,000 GB of e-books. There are standardized stadiums and halls, advanced distance education information platform, interactive teaching platform, abundant online teaching resources and complete learning support service system. The school has 19 on-campus practical training bases and 220 off-campus practical training bases. There is the 100th National Vocational Skills Appraisal Institute in Guizhou Province, which can carry out 67 primary, intermediate and advanced vocational appraisals inside and outside the school. The school has established 10 TV university branches and 87 workstations in the province, cities, prefectures and industries, forming a distance education system covering the whole province. With the purpose of cultivating Guizhou and serving local economic and social development, the school continues to expand the field of schooling, builds a platform for school-government-enterprise cooperation, and innovates talent training models. Now it has 82 open education undergraduate majors and 33 higher vocational education majors. Among them, the initial employment rate of vocational education graduates has stabilized above 97% for three consecutive years. The average satisfaction rate of the alma mater is over 95%, and the satisfaction rate of employers has been over 93% for three consecutive years. The number of non-academic continuing education training exceeded 1.5 million. The school has made important contributions to the economic and social development of Guizhou, has been recognized by the society, and has been affirmed by all aspects. In 2007, he was awarded the excellent summative evaluation of the "Central Radio and Television University Talent Training Model Reform and Open Education Pilot" project by the Ministry of Education. In 2012, he passed the evaluation of the talent training work of higher vocational colleges in Guizhou Province. In 2014, it became the humanities and social science research base of colleges and universities in Guizhou Province. The school has joined the "UNESCO Open Distance Education Sister University Network", and has successively carried out teacher-student cooperation and exchanges with universities such as Taiwan Universal University of Science and Technology, Jianguo University of Science and Technology, Southeast University, Canada's Kanado College, and Thailand's Keller University. The school began recruiting international students in 2016, and currently there are 34 international students from 8 countries including Laos and Russia.
