Founded in 1939, Guiyang Vocational College of Nursing is the earliest health vocational college established in the province. It was established in January 2006 with the approval of the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government and upgraded to Guiyang Vocational College of Nursing. In 2007, it began to open to twelve provinces across the country. The district recruits vocational students. It is a provincial-level exemplary high-quality high-level vocational college with a long history of running a school, complete functions, reasonable structure, and advanced configuration to train high-quality applied health-related professionals.
The school is located in Guanshan Lake District, where the administrative center of Guiyang City is located. It currently covers an area of 546 acres and the school building area is 203,000 square meters. It has built a "five-in-one" training system integrating teaching, training, vocational skills appraisal, skills examinations and technology research and development, and social services. It has 10 simulation experiments including an intelligent medical skills center, a rehabilitation training center, and a drug logistics training center. The project under construction of the school covers an area of 139 acres, and the approved construction area of school buildings is 226,600 square meters, including student dormitories, canteens, teaching center buildings and training centers. The proposed project covers an area of about 300 acres, with a school building area of 261,400 square meters. The construction content is a high-level health training base for the integration of production and education (two hospitals, one hall and five centers: rehabilitation demonstration hospital, smart elderly care demonstration hospital, health care residence experience hall, health care industry research and development center, Guizhou Province Health Collaborative Innovation Center, Kang Health Care Talent Exchange and Training Center, Big Data Health Management Center, Healthy Food and Drug Research Center).
The school has 8 teaching units including the Department of Nursing, Department of Clinical Medicine, Department of Pharmacy, Department of Medical Technology, Department of Health Management, Department of Cultural Foundation, Department of Basic Medicine, and Department of Ideological and Political Theory Course. The “121” professional group is structured with “one leader, two wings and one support” supported by the health professional group, the pharmacy and medical technology professional groups as the two wings, and the health management professional group as the support. The school is currently carrying out international exchanges and cooperation with 10 countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany, and has established a variety of channels for students to study for self-study exams, college entrance exams, and study abroad. As the fifteenth national skill appraisal station in Guizhou Province, it can complete short-term training of vocational skills and vocational qualification level appraisal for 46 types of work. As a designated training institution for vocational skills in Guiyang City, it enjoys the qualification to carry out policy-based employment skills training. In 2016, with the approval of the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, the school officially established the Sino-German Health and Elderly Nursing Training Project (Guiyang) base, becoming the only project partner in Guizhou Province.
As the lead unit of the Guizhou Health Vocational Education Group, the school pays close attention to regional health and elderly care in response to the aging trend of the society, and has established a close-knit school with 16 representative institutions and leading enterprises in the health and health industry in the province through the "government, school and enterprise" linkage model Enterprise Cooperation Community.
