The predecessor of Guizhou Qiannan University of Economics was the Business School of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics. It was established in 2001 with the approval of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education and approved by the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government. In 2021, the Ministry of Education officially approved the conversion of the School of Business of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics to Guizhou Qiannan School of Economics.

The college occupies a total area of more than 1,400 acres, a total construction area of more than 300,000 square meters, more than 800,000 paper books, more than 1.5 million e-books, and a total value of more than 40 million yuan in equipment. The college has six colleges of finance, accounting, management, information, human law, and Marxism. It has 29 undergraduate majors including accounting and finance, covering 5 disciplines including economics, management, engineering, literature, and law.
