Guangxi Vocational and Technical College of Industry is a higher vocational school established by the merger and upgrading of the former Guangxi Nanning Chemical School and Guangxi Light Industry School with the approval of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in August 2003. It is affiliated to the Industry and Information Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and is a higher vocational school of the Ministry of Education. Excellent schools for the evaluation of the level of talent training in vocational colleges and key training units of Guangxi exemplary higher vocational colleges. In October 2013, Guigang Vocational College was merged with the approval of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The original Guangxi Light Industry School was founded in 1956, and the original Guangxi Nanning Chemical School was founded in 1958. The predecessor of the original Guigang Vocational College was Guigang Normal School, which was founded in 1904.
The current campus of the college covers an area of 1,038 mu. The total value of fixed assets is 450 million yuan, of which: the total value of teaching and research equipment is 110 million yuan. There are more than 20,000 students in the college, including more than 18,100 full-time students and more than 2,100 adult undergraduate and junior college students. There are 782 in-service faculty members and 699 full-time and part-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers: 35 are professors, 145 are associate professors and associate professors; 6 have doctorate degrees, and 276 have postgraduate or higher qualifications; more than 70% of teachers have "dual teacher quality". The college focuses on higher vocational education, supplemented by employee training and continuing education. The college cooperates with Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Nanjing Normal University, Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, Wuhan University of Technology, Liaoning University of Technology, etc. to organize correspondence adult education. It also cooperates with Fitchburg State University in the United States, Peninsula College, Glasgow City College in the United Kingdom, De Montfort University, Box Hill College of Australia, Royal University of Technology Tanya Buri in Thailand, Shude University of Science and Technology in Taiwan and other foreign educational institutions jointly run the school.
The college pays attention to the construction of school-enterprise cooperation mechanism and has established close cooperative relations with 123 well-known enterprises in Guangxi and abroad. In 2009, 113 enterprises, scientific research institutes and industry associations were organized to jointly establish the Guangxi Industrial Vocational Education Group, and served as the chairman unit of the group council. In 2016, 8 colleges and 29 enterprises were organized to jointly establish Guigang Vocational Education Group, and served as the chairman unit of the group council.
College is the standing director unit of the China Sugar Association, the Fourth Council of China Chemical Education Association, the National Light Industry Vocational Education Research Association, and the Guangxi Society of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. There are vocational skill appraisal training bases for specific types of work in China's chemical industry, vocational skill training bases for specific types of work in China's light industry, and Nanning Training Center of China Sugar Industry. It has training and appraisal qualifications for 78 vocational types of work. In recent years, more than 4,500 person-times of vocational skills training and appraisal have been carried out for the society every year.
