The predecessor of the school was the Yishan Normal School of Guangxi Province, founded in 1951. It has gone through the operating stages of Guangxi Yishan Prefecture Normal School, Liuzhou Teachers College, and Guangxi Hechi Prefecture Yishan Normal School. In December 1978, the State Council approved the establishment of Hechi on the basis of Yishan Normal School. The normal college was renamed "Hechi Teachers College" approved by the Ministry of Education in 1994. In May 1979, Yishan Normal School (later renamed Yizhou National Normal School) was approved by the Hechi Prefectural Committee of the Communist Party of China. In April 2003, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Hechi College on the basis of Hechi Teachers College. In July 2003, with the approval of the People’s Government of the Autonomous Region, Hechi College was established on the basis of the merger of Hechi Teachers College and Yizhou Normal School for Nationalities, and the People’s Government of the Autonomous Region Co-established with the Hechi Municipal People's Government, a school-running system based on the autonomous region. In December 2011, the school passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education. In 2013, the school was approved as a new master's degree granting unit in Guangxi.
