Guilin Medical College is a general higher education institution directly under the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is an excellent university for undergraduate teaching evaluation by the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of the school was the Guilin Senior Midwifery Nurse School of Guangxi Province, founded in 1935. It was upgraded to Guilin Medical College in 1958 and was upgraded to Guilin Medical College in 1987. In 2014, it was listed as a doctoral degree authorization project construction unit, and in 2015, it was approved to establish a post-doctoral scientific research workstation.
