The school has a long history. Guangxi Medical University was founded on November 21, 1934. It is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, known as the "Green City." (Wuxiang Campus) There are 4 campuses, covering a total area of about 4000 acres. The predecessor was Guangxi Provincial Medical College. The school site was moved to Guilin in 1940. Before 1949, the school moved to the school site seven times and changed its name three times during the war. In November 1949, it was renamed Guangxi Medical College. In 1952, the Central Ministry of Health commissioned the Central South Ministry of Health to directly lead. In April 1953, the Central Ministry of Health approved the change to Guangxi Medical College. In July 1954, it moved back to its current location in Nanning from Guilin.
