Guilin University of Technology is a university jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The school originated from the Guilin Geological School established in Guangxi by the former Ministry of Heavy Industry in 1956. It has undergone five changes of ownership and ten changes of school name. Among them, it was renamed Guilin Institute of Metallurgy and Geology in 1978, Guilin Institute of Technology in 1993, and 2009 It was officially renamed Guilin University of Technology in 1997. Qu Jiuhui, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, vice chairman of the All-China Environmental Protection Federation, vice chairman of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, vice chairman of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development, and member of the National Environmental Advisory Committee, is the honorary principal of the school.
The school has four campuses: Guilin Screen, Guilin Yanshan, Nanning Anji, and Nanning Airport, with a total campus area of more than 3,300 acres.
The school currently has 19 second-level teaching units, 75 undergraduate majors, 50 higher vocational majors, 22 districts with an enrollment major; more than 34,000 full-time students of various types; 2 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 3 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 18 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 9 professional degree categories (including 11 professional fields for engineering masters), and have the qualification to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for master's degree without examination.
