Guangdong Vocational College of Literature and Art is an art higher vocational college with glorious historical traditions and profound cultural accumulation. The "Planning Outline for Building a Cultural Province in Guangdong (2003-2010)" identified Guangdong Vocational College of Literature and Art as a major cultural province in Guangdong. One of the nine major projects. As the only higher vocational college in the system of the National Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the school is a public comprehensive art higher vocational college sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, approved by the People's Government of Guangdong Province, and filed by the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of the school was the "South China People's Literature and Art College" founded by Marshal Ye Jianying in March 1950. The name of the school was inscribed by Chairman Mao Zedong. In 1985, the school was renamed as "South China Amateur University of Literature and Art". The principal was concurrently served by Deputy Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles Douai. Liu Tianfu and Ouyang Shan served as honorary principals. In 1995, with the approval of the Provincial People's Government, the school was renamed "South China College of Arts and Adults". Liu Sifen, vice minister of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee and chairman of the Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, concurrently served as the dean, and famous artists such as Lin Yong, Guo Shaogang, Tang Xiaoming, and Yao Xijuan served as academic committee members of the school. In April 2004, the school was transformed from an adult college to a full-time art higher vocational college, and was renamed "Guangdong Vocational College of Art and Literature".
The school has three campuses including the main campus of Panyu, the Guo Lanying Art Branch of Guangdong Vocational College of Literature and Art, and the Hailian Road campus, covering an area of 188.7 acres. The school currently has 3,867 full-time general higher vocational students, 218 full-time teachers, and 67 off-campus part-time and part-time teachers.
