In 1999, Guangdong Jingda Economic Development Co., Ltd. established the Guangdong Nantong Vocational and Technical College; in 2004, with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, Guangzhou Vocational and Technical College of Science and Technology was established; in 2018, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the educational qualification of Guangzhou Vocational and Technical College of Science and Technology was upgraded. To the undergraduate level vocational school; in 2019, approved by the Ministry of Education, it was renamed "Guangzhou Vocational and Technical University of Science and Technology".
The school forms a development layout of one school and two districts. The Guangzhou campus is located in the Zhongluotan high campus area of Baiyun District, and the Binhai campus is located in the highland area of the "Smart City" education base in Maoming City. The two campuses cover an area of more than 660,000 square meters, with a total construction area of about 540,000 square meters. There are currently more than 25,000 full-time students. The school employs experienced, highly responsible teachers with many years of relevant teaching experience. There are 1,130 full-time teachers, of which 61.3% have a master's degree or above. The school has seven secondary colleges that provide academic education, including the School of Automation Engineering, the School of Art and Media, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Foreign Languages and Trade, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, and the School of Health. In the 2020/2021 academic year, there will be 14 majors for undergraduate programs, 10 majors for 3+2 programs, and 40 majors for specialist programs. The school has set up 162 on-campus experimental training rooms, seven "provincial higher vocational education training practice teaching bases" and a "provincial higher vocational education public training center". In recent years, the school has registered 234 patents, 30 of which are invention patents. It is the only private higher education institution to be ranked among the “Top Ten Universities in Guangzhou for Patent Authorization” in 2014, and it was also listed as the “Valid Patent of Chinese University in 2017”. The school has established a school-enterprise cooperation and internship employment office, responsible for arranging graduates’ job search and entrepreneurship affairs, collecting information on students who have encountered difficulties in finding suitable jobs, and maintaining four online platforms for student employment and entrepreneurship. The management measure of "Ceyi Mentor" assigns a teacher to every student with family difficulties to guide them in finding suitable employment opportunities.
