The predecessor of Guangdong Vocational Technical College of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce was the Guangdong Agricultural Reclamation Machinery School founded in 1952. In 1984, it began to hold junior college education and was transformed into a vocational and technical college in 2000. For more than half a century, the college has adhered to the philosophy of people-oriented, strong school with characteristics, realistic innovation, and harmonious development. It is based on agricultural reclamation, facing Guangdong, and serving the society. It has trained more than 40,000 professional and technical personnel for various enterprises and institutions. And management talents, there are currently more than 18,000 full-time students. In 2005, it was recognized as an excellent institution by the evaluation of the talent training work level of higher vocational colleges nationwide. In 2012, it was identified by the Provincial Department of Education as the establishment and construction unit of the Guangdong Provincial Demonstrative Higher Vocational College Construction Project.
The main campus of the college is located in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, which is at the forefront of reform and opening up. Currently, it presents a school-running pattern of one school and three districts. The east campus is located near the Guangzhou Olympic Center, and the north campus is located in Zengcheng, Guangzhou. The college covers an area of 1,208 acres, with a construction area of 462,924 square meters, and a book collection of more than 1 million books. At present, there are teaching and training institutions such as Department of Hot Work, Department of Management, Department of Business, Department of Finance, Department of Art, Department of Foreign Languages, Department of Computer, Department of Mechanical and Electrical, International Exchange College, Adult Education College, etc., with tropical crop research institute, vocational and technical education Research institutes, institutes of computer applications, institutes of communication technology, institutes of ideological and political education, etc. The college is also the South China Agricultural Reclamation Training Center of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The college currently has 58 majors (directions), among which, the major of crop production technology and professional group, the major of agricultural product quality inspection and professional group, and the major of logistics management (agricultural product logistics) are the key professional construction projects of Guangdong Province's exemplary higher vocational colleges; The major of "Green Food Processing and Management" is the teaching reform pilot major of the Ministry of Education; the four majors of "Food Processing Technology", "Computerized Accounting", "Marketing", and "Computer Multimedia Technology" are exemplary construction majors in Guangdong Province; "Crop Production Technology" and "Marketing" were approved as projects for higher vocational colleges to enhance professional service industry development capabilities supported by the central finance; 3 majors of "Accounting and Auditing", "Agricultural Product Quality Testing", and "Electronic Information Engineering Technology" Was rated as a provincial-level higher vocational education key cultivation major. The marketing major took the lead in establishing the "Guangdong Vocational and Technical Education Professional Teaching Guidance Committee", and the hotel management major took the lead in the establishment of the "Guangdong Higher Vocational Education and Tourism Professional Teaching Guidance Committee". There are more than 11,800 square meters of various training places in the school, 1 national-level higher vocational training base, 3 provincial-level higher vocational education training bases, and more than 900 off-campus training and practice bases.
The college has a sufficient number of teachers with "double teacher" quality and a reasonable structure, including 1 national outstanding teacher, 1 provincial teaching teacher, 5 Nanyue outstanding teachers; 14 senior professional titles, 125 deputy senior professional titles . The college pays attention to international cooperation and exchanges. At present, it has cooperation projects with the British Edexcel vocational qualification and academic examination institution (Edexcel), the German F+U Education Group, and the University of Bolton in the UK. Among them, the BTEC education project held by the college and Edexcel is Guangdong The province’s Sino-British vocational education cooperation pilot project has been included in the province’s unified enrollment since the fall of 2004. The British assessment confirmed that it is currently the best BTEC model educational institution in China. Numerous international cooperation projects provide students with multiple options for transnational internships, employment, and further studies.
The college attaches great importance to quality education, pays attention to cultivating students' innovative thinking and practical ability, and promotes the coordinated development of morality, intelligence, physical education, art and labor. Campus academic festivals, art festivals, sports meets, etc. attract students to participate enthusiastically. There are currently 6 student publications of various types and more than 60 professional associations of various types. Our college has won many awards in various cultural and sports competitions, especially in the 7th and 8th University Games of Guangdong Province, won the first group (higher vocational colleges) in the total number of gold medals, the first in the total number of medals, and track and field.
