Guangdong Baiyun University is a private full-time general undergraduate college under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. Enroll students from 13 provinces (autonomous regions) including Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hainan, Jiangsu, Guizhou, Anhui, and Xinjiang.
The predecessor of the school was Guangzhou Baiyun Applied Technology School founded by Mr. Xie Ketao in 1989. In 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to establish Baiyun Vocational and Technical College. In 2001, it was renamed Guangdong Baiyun Vocational and Technical College. In 2005, it was upgraded to undergraduate and renamed Guangdong Baiyun College. In 2009, it passed the authorization review of the bachelor's degree-granting unit, passed the qualification evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education in 2011, and accepted the review and evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education in 2018.
The school has two campuses, both of which are located in Baiyun District, Guangzhou. Among them, the West Campus is located in Jianggao Town; the North Campus is a new campus located in Guangzhou Second University City (also known as Zhongluotan University Park). Both campuses have built standard plastic track and field sports fields, as well as gymnasiums, tennis courts, basketball courts, etc. The student dormitories are all equipped with water heaters, air conditioners, broadband, etc. There are a total of 341 experimental (training) rooms and student science and technology innovation project studios. There is a library with more than 1.5 million books and rich digital resources. There is a gigabit campus network, and the campus has realized information management. At present, there are more than 24,000 full-time students and more than 1,500 faculty members, including more than 1,200 full-time teachers.
Based on applied undergraduate education, the school steadily expands international education, vigorously promotes continuing education, and forms a multi-level and multi-form talent training system. There are 16 secondary colleges and 52 undergraduate majors. Establish a discipline and professional system that focuses on engineering and management, and coordinated development of engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art, education and other disciplines. There are 3 provincial-level key cultivation disciplines (design art, mechanical manufacturing and automation, business management), 2 provincial-level first-class majors (mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, product design), and 1 provincial-level first-class course (product design) Procedures and methods). There is 1 Guangdong Demonstration Industry Institute (Shuguang University of Big Data), and 1 IEET Engineering Education Certification (Machinery Design and Manufacturing and Automation). There are 13 provincial (school)-level scientific research platforms, among which, the Guangdong Province Thin-walled Light Steel Structure Prefabricated Construction Engineering Technology Development Center and the Guangdong Province Clean Vegetable Fresh-keeping Packaging Equipment Engineering Research Center are provincial-level scientific research platform projects; the Pearl River Delta Urban and Rural Development The Research Center for Social Governance was awarded the provincial decision-making consultation base by the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, and the Research Center of the University of Applied Sciences was awarded the private education research base by the Guangdong Institute of Education. In addition, there are 4 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers and 1 provincial-level applied talent collaborative education platform.

The school implements the strategy of leading international education and actively carries out international exchanges and cooperation. It has cooperated with Northwest Purdue University in the United States, the University of Richmond in London in the United Kingdom, the University of Applied Technology in Germany, King’s College in Australia, Okayama University in Japan, Wonkwang University in South Korea, etc. 10 More than 60 international cooperative education programs including exchange of students, mutual recognition of credits, double degrees, and continuous undergraduate and master's degree programs have been carried out by 28 universities in three countries.
The school has been ranked first in the "Top Ten Competitiveness of Private Colleges and Universities in Guangdong Province" assessed by the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences for 12 consecutive years. In 2013, it became the first batch of "University of Applied Science and Technology Reform Pilot Strategic Research Institutions", and became the initiator and governing unit of the China University of Applied Science Alliance. In 2014, it became the vice chairman unit of the National Alliance of Newly-built Undergraduate Colleges. In 2015, it became the first batch of demonstration schools in Guangdong Province to govern schools according to law. In 2016, it was included in the first batch of "Guangdong Province Ordinary Undergraduate Transformation Pilot Universities". In 2017, it became a university under the "Hundred Schools Project" of the Ministry of Education Data China. In 2018, the school's “3+1” talent training model of school-enterprise collaborative education won the first prize of Guangdong Province Teaching Achievement. In 2019, Chairman Xie Ketao was awarded the "Outstanding Contributor to Guangdong Private Education for 40 Years"; Guangdong Baiyun College was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Institution of Guangdong Private Education for 40 Years". In 2020, the school was awarded the Guangdong Province University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Demonstration School; in the Alumni Association China's best university rankings in various urban agglomerations, Guangdong Baiyun College ranked first in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area best universities (private) rankings.
The school attaches great importance to the leadership of party building, comprehensively implements the party's educational policy, and implements the fundamental task of cultivating people with morality. In 2016, the school was awarded the honorary title of "Excellent Primary Party Organization" in Guangdong Province. In 2018, the school was approved as a model university for party building in Guangdong Province. In 2020, the school was selected as a pilot unit for the construction of the system and mechanism of the "Three All-round Education" in universities and colleges in Guangdong Province; it was awarded as a demonstration site for the "Two New" organization and party building work in the province. In the past three years, the English Student Party Branch of the School of Foreign Languages and the Faculty and Labor Party Branch of the School of Marxism have been selected as the "National Model Party Branch"; the Fang Jiansong Studio of the Faculty and Labor Party Branch of the School of Art and Design has been selected as the National "Double Leader" Teacher Party Branch Secretary Studio.
