Southern University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as SUSTech) is a new-type public research university with a high starting point and high positioning established by Shenzhen in the context of China's higher education reform and development. The school draws on the discipline setting and school-running mode of world-class universities of science and technology, focusing on science, engineering, and medicine, and combining business and characteristic humanities and social sciences. Up to now, Southern University of Science and Technology has signed a contract to introduce 1,247 teachers, including 47 academicians (27 full-time academicians signed and trained independently), 47 international fellows, 34 specially-appointed experts from the Ministry of Education, and 14 experts in the National Special Support Program. There are 34 winners of the "National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Fund" and 14 winners of the "National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Fund". More than 90% of teaching and research teachers have overseas work experience, and more than 60% have work or study experience in the top 100 universities in the world. High-level talents account for more than 40% of the teaching staff.

The school strives to establish a diversified admission mechanism and an advanced comprehensive education system that is conducive to educational fairness and the selection of innovative talents. The school took the lead in reforming the enrollment system, adopting the "comprehensive evaluation and admission model based on the college entrance examination" to recruit outstanding students. With the core and characteristics of "credit system, college system, tutorial system" and "internationalization, individualization, and elitism", the school vigorously cultivates top-notch innovative talents.
