Jinan University

Jinan University is the first overseas Chinese college founded by the government in China. It is a key comprehensive university under the "211 Project" jointly established by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Education, and Guangdong Province. It is directly under the leadership of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.

The predecessor of 　　 school was Jinan Academy founded in Nanjing by the Qing government in 1906. After moving to Shanghai, it was renamed National Jinan University in 1927. During the Anti-Japanese War, moved to Jianyang, Fujian. Moved back to Shanghai in 1946 and merged with Fudan University and Jiaotong University in August 1949. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Jinan University was rebuilt in Guangzhou in 1958. It was temporarily suspended during the "Cultural Revolution" and resumed in Guangzhou in 1978. After the reform and opening up, the school developed rapidly. In June 1996, Jinan University became a national key university facing the 21st century. In April 2011, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Education, and the Guangdong Provincial Government signed an agreement to jointly build Jinan University. In June 2015, the school was selected as a key construction university of high-level universities in Guangdong Province. In September 2017, the school was selected as a national "double first-class" construction university.

The school's eight disciplines including engineering, chemistry, clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, materials science, biology and biochemistry, agricultural science, and environment/ecology have entered the top 1% of the ESI world rankings. In the national university discipline evaluation rankings announced by the Ministry of Education in January 2013, 7 first-level disciplines of our school were on the list.
