Gansu Police Vocational College was founded in September 1949 and was called "Gansu People's Public Security School" at the time. It was called "Gansu Provincial Public Security School" after its resumption in 1978, and was renamed "Gansu Provincial People's Police School" in 1980. In July 2001, it was upgraded to "Gansu Police Vocational College" approved by the People's Government of Gansu Province. It is a full-time higher vocational college of public security approved by the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education. It is under the leadership and management of the Gansu Provincial Public Security Department.
The college has two campuses, Zuojiawan, Chengguan District, Lanzhou City, and Weijiazhuang, Gaolan County, with a total area of nearly 2,000 acres and a school building area of more than 200,000 square meters. Now open and recruit 11 public security and judicial majors, including criminal investigation, criminal science and technology, public security management, traffic management, economic crime investigation, drug control, information network security supervision, police dog technology, special police, domestic security and judicial police. Among them, the three majors of criminal investigation, criminal science and technology, and public security management are provincial-level specialty majors, the two majors of public security management and traffic management are key construction majors supported by the central finance, and the major of public security management is also a key professional training point for public security higher education of the Ministry of Public Security. In 2017, in accordance with the college’s existing school running conditions and development plan, approved by the Provincial Public Security Department, approved by the Department of Education, and filed by the Ministry of Education, community corrections, security technology, civil aviation security, information security and management, and online public opinion monitoring were newly established. Six non-public security majors, including psychological counseling, have enrolled students this year. The college currently has 40 experimental training rooms for various majors and public courses, 12 training venues (vaults), and 42 off-campus teaching practice and practice bases established with grassroots public security agencies. The library has 590,000 paper books, 186,000 e-books, and 2 electronic resource databases.
The college insists on political establishment and running schools in accordance with the law; insists on teaching center and quality-oriented; insists on highlighting characteristics and comprehensive education; insists on facing public security and serving the society; insists on the combination of academic warfare and innovative development; insists on based in Gansu and radiates to the northwest. Focusing on obedience and service of public security work and the construction of public security teams, with the promotion of the reform of the recruitment and training system of public security colleges as the driving force, the implementation of a three-in-one school model of academic education, public security scientific research, and on-the-job training, continuously improves the basic conditions for running schools, and deepens the reform of education and teaching. Improve the quality of talent training. In the 68 years of running the school, it has trained and delivered more than 15,000 professional police personnel for the public security, judicial, and security departments of the northwest provinces and regions, and trained more than 70,000 in-service public security police personnel. Most of the graduates have become leading cadres and backbones of public security organs at all levels in the province. The school-running level and the ability to govern the school have gradually reached the forefront of the province's vocational colleges, becoming an important base for the training of professional talents for the public security and judicial organs in Gansu and the northwest and the main channel for supplementing the people's police.
