Gansu Normal University for Nationalities

Gansu Normal University for Nationalities is located in Hezuo City, the capital of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, at the junction of the three provinces of Gansu, Qinghai, and Sichuan, the gateway to Tibet in the interior.


The predecessor of    was the Hezuo National Teachers College, which was founded in October 1984. On May 16, 1986, Hu Yaobang, the then General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, wrote the name of the school in Gannan during his inspection. In March 2009, the school was upgraded to Gansu Normal University for Nationalities, which is the only provincial normal university for nationalities in Gansu Province. In May 2013, it was determined that the National Civil Affairs Commission and the Gansu Provincial People's Government jointly built a school.


   The school occupies an area of nearly 1,000 acres, with a total school building area of 312,800 square meters, including a total area of 156,600 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings, and a total area of 33,900 square meters of experimental training rooms. The total value of fixed assets is about 773 million yuan, the total value of teaching and research equipment is 15 million yuan; the collection of various books is 2,200,574, and the paper books are 788,600.   The school enrolls students mainly in Gansu, and faces 18 provinces and regions including Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Guizhou, Guangxi, Shandong, Henan, Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning. At present, there are 10,554 ordinary students at school, which are composed of 25 ethnic groups including Han, Tibetan, Hui, Yugu, Baoan, and Dongxiang. Ethnic minorities account for 68%, making it one of the colleges with the largest number of Tibetan students in the interior.


   The school now has 16 teaching departments (departments), 51 undergraduate majors and directions, covering 9 disciplines such as education, science, literature, law, history, and art. It has 1 national characteristic specialty construction site, 4 provincial characteristic specialty, 2 provincial teaching teams, 9 provincial quality courses, and 26 provincial and departmental teaching achievement awards.
