Gansu Agricultural University

Gansu Agricultural University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education for undergraduate teaching evaluation, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Gansu Provincial Government. Its predecessor was the National Veterinary College established in Lanzhou in October 1946. Mr. Sheng Tongsheng, one of the founders of modern veterinary science, served as the first dean. In 1950, it was renamed Northwest Veterinary College; in 1951, it was renamed Northwest Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College; in 1958, it merged with the Gansu Agricultural College under construction to form Gansu Agricultural University.


The school is located in Anning District, Lanzhou City, covering an area of 701,200 square meters and a building area of 502,100 square meters. There are now 17 colleges (teaching department), 53 undergraduate majors, 5 national specialty construction sites such as animal medicine; 1 national key discipline (Prairie Science), 1 key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture, and 13 Provincial key disciplines; 4 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 6 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 23 doctoral degree authorization points; 14 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 77 master degree authorization points; national key experiments There are 1 laboratory cultivation base, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 16 provincial key laboratories (engineering centers) jointly built by the province and the ministry.


The school has more than 1,500 faculty and staff, more than 1,000 full-time teachers, including 485 senior titles; 2 members of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and 4 candidates for the first and second levels of the National "Hundred, Thousand, Thousand, Thousand Talents Project". The Ministry of Education 2 people from the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program, 1 person from the Ministry of Agriculture "National Agricultural Science and Technology Extension Model", 3 people from the Expert Steering Group of the Ministry of Agriculture; 1 person each of the "Gansu Province Science and Technology Heroes" and the "Ten Long Talents", Gansu There are 4 specially-appointed scientific and technological experts in the province, 30 leading talents in Gansu Province; 74 tugong experts, special posting experts, and famous teaching teachers.


The school began recruiting postgraduates in 1953. It was the first batch of bachelor and master degree granting units and the second batch of doctoral degree granting units among Chinese universities. There are more than 16,000 general undergraduate students and more than 2,000 doctoral and master students. So far, more than 100,000 senior professionals have been trained for the country, and a large number of outstanding alumni have emerged, such as the first Chinese academician of the Royal Academy of Sciences Yang Ziheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shang Yongfeng, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Nan Zhibiao.


Since the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the school has undertaken more than 2,000 scientific research projects, with a total funding of 374 million yuan. 195 research achievements have been awarded, including 84 provincial and ministerial awards and 145 authorized patents; 193 monographs have been published. More than 6,100 papers have been published in academic journals at home and abroad, including more than 210 papers included in SCI and EI. At present, the whole school undertakes more than 610 projects such as the national “863” and “973” plans, the national science and technology support plan, and the National Natural (Social) Science Fund. A number of major research results have been made in water-saving agriculture, animal health breeding, biotechnology, agricultural product processing, etc., and have made important contributions to serving the "three rural" and regional economic and social development.


The school attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. It maintains academic exchanges with more than 20 universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, Egypt and other countries. He studied abroad and cooperated with the United States and other countries to establish the "Sino-U.S. Research Center for Sustainable Development of Grassland Animal Husbandry." The implementation of cooperative education projects such as the "China-US 1+2+1 Talent Training Program" has enabled our students to make full use of high-quality international education resources, enrich their experience, and increase their talents.


In the process of 68 years of construction and development, the school has adhered to the school motto of "Honesty, Encouragement, Dedication and Ability", and has formed an excellent school spirit of "Diligence, Preciseness, Realism and Innovation". Several generations of agricultural colleges have promoted the Gannong spirit of “continuous self-improvement and striving for success”, and have made remarkable achievements in personnel training, scientific research, social services, and cultural inheritance and innovation. They have provided a strong foundation for economic construction and social development in Gansu and the western region. Strong intellectual support and talent guarantee have made important contributions to the development of higher agricultural education in our country.
