School History] Northwest Normal University is a key university jointly built by the People's Government of Gansu Province and the Ministry of Education, and one of the 14 universities in the western region supported by the state. Its predecessor was the National Peking Normal University. It started from the Peking Normal University Normal Hall established in 1902. It was changed to "National Beijing Higher Normal School" in 1912 and "National Peking Normal University" in 1923. After the July 7th Incident in 1937, the National Peking Normal University, the National Peking University and Beiyang Institute of Technology, which moved westward at the same time, formed Northwest United University. Before 1958, the school was one of the six key normal universities in the country directly under the Ministry of Education. In 1958, it was placed under the leadership of Gansu Province and renamed Gansu Normal University. In 1981, it was renamed Northwest Normal University. In 1988, it was renamed Northwest Normal University.
