Northwest University for Nationalities

[Historical evolution] Northwest University for Nationalities is the first ethnic college established after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and is affiliated to the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. The school started as the Tibetan Studies Class and the Tibetan School in Lanzhou by the First Field Army of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in September 1949. It was rebuilt in January 1950 as the third branch of the Lanzhou Branch of the Northwest People’s Revolutionary University. The Northwest was formally established in August 1950. The Nationalities College was renamed Northwest University for Nationalities in April 2003.


[School Overview] The school is located in Lanzhou City, with two campuses, with a total campus area of 1,776 mu, including 359 acres on the Northwest Xincun campus and 1,417 acres on the Yuzhong campus; building area of 735645.33 square meters; more than 3.94 million books and materials; museums The collection of cultural relics is 2,964; the total value of teaching and research equipment is 4101.3 billion yuan, and the total fixed assets are 3.544286 billion yuan. In 2015, it became a college jointly established by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Education. In July 2016, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the People's Government of Gansu Province signed a joint construction agreement. In 2017, it was listed as a high-level university construction unit in Gansu Province.


[Talent training] The school takes root in the northwestern region and runs a university. It has always adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating morality, serving the national strategy and the economic and social development of ethnic minorities and ethnic areas, and always insisting on training for ethnic areas to be "available and useful." Specialized talents who can be used, retained, dependable, and do well have been conscious of their mission and have trained more than 160,000 talents of various types. The school recruits students from 31 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) across the country.   【Scientific research】The school focuses on scientific research and has achieved remarkable results.
