Lanzhou University is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, and one of the key universities in the national "985 Project" and "211 Project".
School was founded in 1909. Its predecessor was the Gansu School of Law and Politics established during the New Deal period of the late Qing Dynasty. It was expanded to Lanzhou Sun Yat-sen University in 1928, and was named National Lanzhou University in 1945. After the founding of New China, Lanzhou University adhered to the party's educational policy, adhered to the correct direction of running a school, developed and grew rapidly. In the adjustment of colleges and universities, it has been identified as one of the country’s 14 comprehensive universities; guided by the strategic goals of "developing the Northwest" and "establishing a strategic rear", it has become an important strategic position in the national higher education structure. In 2002 and 2004, the former Gansu Provincial Institute of Grassland Ecology and Lanzhou Medical College were merged into Lanzhou University, which made the school’s disciplines more complete and its comprehensive advantages more prominent, ushering in a period of rapid development in history, and running the school.
