Minbei Vocational and Technical College was formally established on February 26, 2004 with the approval of the Fujian Provincial People's Government. It is a full-time public higher vocational school sponsored by the Nanping Municipal People's Government and managed by the Provincial Department of Education. The predecessor of the college was Jianyang Normal School, founded in 1929.
In May 2005, the Nanping Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to move the Minbei Vocational and Technical College from Jianyang to the Vocational Education Park of Jiangnan New District, Nanping City. The planned area of the new campus is 500 mu, with a total construction area of 100,000 square meters, of which the first phase of the project has a construction area of 60,000 square meters, which was put into use in June 2009.
