Minbei Vocational and Technical College was formally established on February 26, 2004 with the approval of the Fujian Provincial People's Government. It is a full-time public higher vocational school sponsored by the Nanping Municipal People's Government and managed by the Provincial Department of Education. The predecessor of the college was Jianyang Normal School, founded in 1929.
In May 2005, the Nanping Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to move the Minbei Vocational and Technical College from Jianyang to the Vocational Education Park of Jiangnan New District, Nanping City.
