Sanming College is a provincial public full-time general undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2004. It implements a provincial and municipal management system based on the city. In June 2012, it passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education. It is the first batch of Fujian Province's demonstration and application-oriented undergraduate universities, the first batch of deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform demonstration schools and master's degree granting and training units in Fujian Province. The predecessor of the school was Sanming College, which was established in October 2000 by the merger of Sanming Teachers College, Sanming Vocational University, and Sanming Normal School. The history of the school can be traced back to Quanmin Normal School founded by Chen Baochen in 1903.
The school is located in Sanming City, Fujian Province, the hometown of Zhu Xi, the great philosopher of the Song Dynasty, the Central Soviet Area, the green capital of China, and the national civilized city. The campus covers an area of 1,320 acres, with a construction area of approximately 385,700 square meters, of which 216,800 square meters are used for teaching and administration, and 129,700 square meters are student dormitories. The collection of books is 4,724,400 (including 3,193,100 e-books). The total value of teaching and research equipment is 170.2038 million yuan. Among them, Sanming College-ZTE ICT Industry College was the first batch of exemplary industrial colleges in Fujian Province.
The role of scientific research in promoting teaching has been strengthened. Actively promote foreign exchanges and cooperation. It is a Fujian-Taiwan cooperative project school of the Provincial Department of Education, a Sino-foreign cooperative project school of the Ministry of Education and a school that accepts foreign students.
