Minjiang College is located in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province. It is a full-time general undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in 2002. It implements a school-running system of "province and city co-construction and city-based". The school is currently a pilot university for postgraduate education for master's degree programs to "serve the special needs of the country", a key construction university in Fujian Province, a first-class discipline construction university, a demonstration applied undergraduate university in Fujian Province, and the first batch of demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform.


The school has a glorious historical tradition. The predecessor was the Fuzhou Teachers Technical College founded in 1958 and the Minjiang Vocational University (including the Fuzhou Arts and Crafts School merged in 2001) founded in 1984. In 2010, the Fujian Conservatory of Music founded by patriotic overseas Chinese Mr. Cai Jikun was merged into Minjiang College . During his work in Fuzhou, General Secretary Xi Jinping served concurrently as the president of Minjiang Vocational University for 6 years (June 1990 to May 1996). He personally set the direction and ideas for the reform and development of the school. But to meet the needs of the society," he advocates the school-running philosophy of "based on Fuzhou, market-oriented, quality, and application." After leaving his post, he always cared about the development of the school. In 2008, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary and in 2018, the 60th anniversary of the school. During the school celebration, he sent congratulatory letters during his busy schedule; on March 25, 2021, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the school again and delivered an important speech, which pointed out the direction of efforts for the new development of the school, provided fundamental follow-up, and injected strong impetus. .


After more than sixty years of development, the school has become an applied undergraduate university with a relatively complete range of disciplines, a high level of education, and a certain degree of influence. The school has 15 secondary colleges, has a master's degree in business administration, and offers 66 undergraduate majors, covering eight disciplines including economics, law, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. It has 3 provincial-level key disciplines, 1 provincial-level first-class discipline (plateau discipline), 6 provincial-level applied disciplines; 2 national-level characteristic majors, 1 national-level first-class professional construction site; provincial demonstration applied professional group There are 3, 14 provincial-level first-class professional construction sites, 5 provincial-level characteristic majors, 7 service industry characteristic majors, 5 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship reform pilot majors, and 6 provincial-level talent training model innovation experimental areas.


The school currently has about 16,000 full-time students, more than 1,000 full-time teachers, and 90% of them are teachers with a master's degree or above (36% are teachers with doctoral degrees). It has 12 provincial-level teaching, scientific research and high-end foreign professional teams, and 106 national, provincial and ministerial-level talents (including soft recruitment). There are 39 provincial-level scientific research and innovation platforms, including 4 provincial-level key laboratories.


The school has a total campus area of 2,245 mu. The total area of the school building is 541,600 square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 421 million yuan. There were 1.96 million paper books and 1.66 million e-books.


The school adheres to open education, and cooperates with counties (cities) and districts in Fuzhou in scientific and technological development; with domestic high-level universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, University of Science and Technology of China, Wuhan University of Technology, Donghua University, Wenzhou University, etc. Carry out school-running cooperation; cooperate with Taiwanese universities such as Feng Chia University, Chinese Culture University, and Shishi University to jointly cultivate applied talents in Fujian and Taiwan universities; establish friendly cooperation with more than 30 universities outside Japan, the United States, Australia, Canada and other countries (overseas) relation. Cooperating with the European University of Cyprus to organize a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution with no legal personality at the undergraduate level-the International School of Digital Economics of Minjiang University. Cooperated with Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia to host the province's first Chinese-foreign cooperative education institution with independent legal personality-Fuzhou Melbourne Institute of Technology Vocational College.


The school's running and development have been highly valued by the provincial and municipal party committees and governments and strongly supported by all sectors of society. The Provincial Department of Education and the Fuzhou Municipal People's Government signed an agreement to jointly support school construction and formulated an implementation plan. Fuzhou issued the "Several Opinions of the Fuzhou Municipal People's Government on Supporting Minjiang College to Comprehensively Improve the Level of Running Schools." Social charity organizations, well-known overseas Chinese leaders, and entrepreneurs have generously donated their money to support the school operation. In particular, the Fujian Fashu Charity Foundation has donated a total of RMB 1 billion to the school.
