Fujian Normal University is located in Fuzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as the "Seaside Zoulu". It is a century-old provincial institution of higher learning with a long history and an impressive reputation. The school started in 1907 as the "Fujian Excellent Normal School" founded by Mr. Chen Baochen, the emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Later, after several adjustments and mergers by South China Women's College of Arts and Sciences, Fujian Union University, Fujian Provincial Teachers College and other units, Fujian Normal College was established in 1953. It was renamed Fujian Normal University in 1972 and is still in use today. In 2012, the Ministry of Education and Fujian Province decided to jointly build Fujian Normal University. In 2014, it was identified as a key high-level university in Fujian Province. In 2018, it was identified as a "double first-class" construction university in Fujian Province.
