Quanzhou Normal University is located in Quanzhou, one of the three central cities in Fujian Province. Quanzhou is one of the first batch of Chinese historical and cultural cities, the first East Asian cultural capital, and the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. Its economic aggregate has ranked first in Fujian Province for 22 consecutive years. The school was established in 2000 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is the first newly-built local provincial undergraduate college in Fujian Province. It is composed of Quanzhou Normal School founded in 1923, Nan'an Normal School in 1939, Quanzhou Education College in 1951 and 1958. The Quanzhou Teachers Technical College was merged and formed.

The history of running a school in the past 100 years has been a long way to go. Generations of spring teachers have been adhering to the school motto of "Being good at learning like springs and being upright to greatness", continuing the past, forging ahead, and promoting the continuous development of the school. In 2004, it passed the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education. In 2011, it was approved as a pilot work unit for cultivating postgraduates with a master's degree. In 2012, it was approved as an overseas Chinese education base in Fujian Province. In 2013, it was approved as the first batch of "2011 Collaborative Innovation Center" in Fujian Province and the innovation base for graduate education in Fujian Province. Passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education in 2016. The school currently has a main campus in Quanzhou (the main campus) and two branch campuses in Nan'an and Licheng, covering a total area of 1815 acres. There are 17 secondary colleges and 58 undergraduate enrollment majors. There are nearly 18,000 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates. The school adheres to the original aspiration of educating people, establishes its position as a center for talent training, and strives to build a high-level undergraduate education. In recent years, he has won 1 National Teaching Achievement Award, 5 Fujian Provincial Teaching Achievement Special Award, 9 First Prizes, 17 Second Prizes, and 1 First Prize of the National University Young Teacher Teaching Competition. The school adheres to the discipline construction as the leader, focusing on special engineering, humanities and social sciences, and fine teacher education. There are 14 provincial-level disciplines, of which music and dance are selected as the first-class disciplines in Fujian Province; 6 disciplines including chemical engineering and technology, food science and engineering, textile science and engineering, education, optical engineering, and business administration have been approved as Fujian Provincial Higher Education Applied disciplines in the school; 7 disciplines including Chinese Language and Literature and Biology have been approved as key disciplines in Fujian Province.
