Chinese People's Liberation Army Artillery and Air Defense Academy

The Nanjing Artillery Academy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, approved by the Central Military Commission, was established in 2011 by the merger of the original PLA Artillery Command Academy and the original Nanjing Branch of the PLA Artillery Academy. The predecessor of the original Artillery Command Academy was the "Yan'an Artillery School", the first military academy of the People's Liberation Army, founded in 1944 in Nanniwan, northern Shaanxi. The original Nanjing Branch of the Artillery Academy was formerly the East China Field Army established in March 1947 in Mantangpo, Yishui, Shandong. "The two schools have trained more than 120,000 artillery and air defense commanders for the entire army.

Nanjing Artillery Academy was selected on the site of the former KMT Army Artillery School. The Kuomintang opened the first arms school in the Republic of China in 1931. It was the only artillery school in the country at that time. It was called "Tangshan Artillery School" in history, and its status was second only to Army University and Huangpu Military Academy.
