Bengbu College is a provincial-owned local applied undergraduate university with a focus on work. The predecessor of the school was Bengbu College of Education founded in 1982, Bengbu Higher Technical School founded in 1989, and Bengbu Workers College founded in 1997. In April 2007, approved by the Ministry of Education, the three schools were merged and upgraded and named Bengbu College. In 2011, the school management system was classified as “provincial and municipal joint construction, and provincial management as the mainstay”. In 2014, it passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education. In the course of running the school for more than 30 years, a large number of outstanding professionals have been trained for the local economy and society. Among the graduates, Gao Hongjun was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The school is located in Bengbu, the central city of northern Anhui. It has two campuses, Longzi Lake and Zhanggongshan. The main campus is located on the bank of Longzi Lake, a national 4A-level scenic spot. The campus covers an overall area of 1148 acres and a building area of about 320,000 square meters. Teaching and research equipment is worth 110.38 million yuan, and the collection of paper books is about 1.3 million. There are 20 on-campus experiment (internship) training centers, including 1 provincial-level engineering practice education center, 5 provincial-level internship training demonstration centers, 2 provincial-level engineering technology centers, and more than 200 various types of laboratories. There are also 6 provincial-level school-enterprise cooperative practice education bases and 20 on-campus research institutions. The school currently has 13 secondary colleges (teaching department), and also has Anhui Open University Bengbu branch (including Anhui Radio and Television University Bengbu branch and continuing education college), offering 51 undergraduate majors, including 6 provincial-level specialty majors, and provincial-level specialty majors. The school put forward the concept of application-oriented talent training based on the "big engineering concept", multi-disciplinary cross, integration of production and education in the applied undergraduate universities in Anhui Province earlier.
