Hefei University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Anhui Provincial Government jointly established universities, and the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau and the Ministry of Education jointly established universities. The school was founded in 1945 and was approved as a national key university by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1960. The older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, such as Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Dong Biwu, Chen Yi, and Deng Xiaoping, came to the school to inspect and guide the work. In 1979, Comrade Deng Xiaoping wrote the name of the school. In 2005, the school became a national "211 Project" key construction university, in 2009 it became a national "985 Project" superior discipline innovation platform construction university, and in 2017 it entered the ranks of national "double first-class" construction universities.
The school is deeply committed to "serving the country by industry", adhering to the school motto of "Honesty, Devotion, Practicality, and Innovation". The goal has formed the talent training characteristics of "a solid engineering foundation, a solid work style, and a strong entrepreneurial ability". There are more than 2,200 full-time teachers, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (dual appointment), winners of the “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, and winners of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Youth There are more than 100 high-level talents, including the winners of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Youth and the Ministry of Education's "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program".

Since entering the new century, the school has won 12 national teaching achievement awards, of which our school is the first to complete 9 of them. At present, there are more than 32,300 full-time undergraduates, more than 13,000 masters and doctoral students, and 2 national college students "Xiaoping Technology Innovation Team". The school has 4 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 3 national engineering practice education centers. The school has been selected as one of the first batch of “Demonstration Universities for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform”, “National University Practice Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base”, the first batch of pilot universities for the “Excellent Engineer Training Program” of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of National Youth League’s “Second Class Achievements” "Single" pilot unit, "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Typical Experience Colleges", the Ministry of Education's first batch of college students network culture studios.
The school has 16 authorized first-level disciplines for doctoral degree, 2 authorized types of doctoral professional degree; 39 authorized first-level disciplines for master's degree, 19 professional degree-granting categories for master's degree; existing (joint) national key laboratory (cultivation) and 1 national engineering laboratory, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 5 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, 2 national international scientific and technological cooperation bases (demonstration type), 3 national and local joint engineering research centers, and national and local joint engineering experiments 1 laboratory and 1 laboratory in Anhui Province ("One Room, One Center" in Anhui Province).

The school has Tunxi Road campus, Feicuihu campus, Lu'an Road campus and Hefei University of Technology Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Research Institute in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, and Hefei University of Technology Xuancheng Campus in Xuancheng, Anhui Province. The school has won many honorary titles such as the Fourth National Civilized Unit and the first "National Civilized Campus".
